GreenHand Field School – IDEP Foundation
During a 6 month projects, started 14th December 2006 to 18th June 2007, many activities were delivered and many objectives realized. 116 villagers of six coastal villages in Seunuddon received trainings and capacity building in various permaculture and sustainable recovery techniques (4 Permaculture Design Courses and 11 different Component Intensive Trainings); and a community development demonstration site was created in a barren area. This demonstration site is now functioning as a community learning center and includes four different types of home garden that produce organic food, composting facilities, seed propagation nurseries, seed banks and waste water treatment systems.
Community members in the area have organized themselves into a working group, and with the support from IDEP’s GreenHand Field School (GFS) outreach team they are now able to independently manage the demonstration site, which services the community at large. They expect for the near future to be able to generate income from the products of the Seunuddon Permaculture Demonstration site.
Due to the good results of the project CORDAID has requested GFS/IDEP Foundation to continue working in the area to continue and further develop the activities and to expand the scope of the project to address the specific needs of families living in relocation areas, starting from 1st of November 2007 to 30th April 2008.
