Housing & InfrastructureCordaid’s Housing and Infrastructure Project in Seunuddon was developed through a long process involving community, especially the beneficiaries, local authority and other national and international agencies/NGOs.The project covers the reconstruction of 650 houses (including 2 pilot houses) for Seunuddon's tsunami survivors, reconstruction, new construction and recondition of district and village roads (with a total length of approximately 17 km), rehabilitation and extension of water supply network from the Lhok Sukon Water Plant in collaboration with PDAM Tirta Mon Pase.
The development of this project was done over several steps, such as community consultation in terms of identifying beneficiaries, providing different design of houses, which then presented to the community to be selected and also coordination with local authority and local government to verify the list of beneficiaries, to determine relocation areas and also to conduct community meetings throughout the process. Tight coordination as well with other local and international agencies/NGOs as with BRR NAD – Nias (Aceh – Nias Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Board) is maintained along the whole process in order to avoid overlapping. At the end of the preliminary community consultation phase, Cordaid’s beneficiaries have chosen two different types of houses to be constructed. The physical implementation began shortly after. Interms of building new infrastructure, construction of village road has been carried out in three relocation areas. Additionally, Cordaid has also been reconstructing damaged bridge in one of the villages. The reconstruction of 650 houses is due for completion by the end of 2007.
